Our story

Founded in 2021.
Built to last.

Al Fatah Cricket Club is a Melbourne cricket club with a simple rule at its centre: the badge is bigger than any one player.

How it started

A borrowed kit bag and a shared idea

In 2021 a small group of players in Melbourne were tired of turning up to sides where the same eleven names went in the book every week regardless of form. They wanted somewhere that picked on merit, trained properly, and treated the newest player the same as the oldest friend.

So they started their own club. Al Fatah Cricket Club took the field with borrowed gear, no sponsor, and a squad small enough to fit in three cars. Faisal Hayat led it then and leads it now, as both President and Captain. Today the club carries a squad of twenty four across three leagues.

What kept the club together in those first seasons was not the results. It was that nobody was carried and nobody was cut loose. Players who could not make training were still called. Players who had a bad game got another one. That is the whole culture, and it has not changed as the club has grown.

How we operate

Three commitments we make to every player

01

Selection on merit

Form, effort and attitude decide the eleven. The captain and vice captain pick the side together and will tell you straight why you are in or out.

02

Preparation, not luck

Structured training, planned bowling and batting roles, and honest match reviews. Our vice captain runs opposition analysis before every serious fixture.

03

Nobody carries the cost alone

Ground fees, kit and transport are shared. Our sponsors exist so that a good player is never priced out of the club.

Beyond the boundary

The club is a community first

Al Fatah is a family club. Kids come to games, wear the kit, and get their own jersey with their name on the back. That is not a marketing exercise, it is how the next generation of the club gets built.

We support players arriving in Melbourne who want a side to join and a group to know. Plenty of our squad found the club before they found much else here, and that means something to us.
